Federal Recreational
Trail Program Grant Monies
llinois' apportionment ($1,347,057) of the
Recreational Trail Program grant monies (authorized by the National
Recreational Trails Fund Act) funded several projects for equestrian
trails:
Kankakee River State Park - $22,000
Located in Kankakee and Will Counties. The monies will pay
for widening and rehabilitating approximately 8 miles of
equestrian trail using gravel and geoweb.
Siloam Springs State Park - $128,870.
Located in Adams and Brown Counties. The monies will pay
for rehabilitating and improving a total of approximately 13
miles on two equestrian trails. Also the installation of
sign, replacement of three bridges, installation of geoweb
at creek crossings and resurfacing trail heads.
Deer Grove West Forest Preserve Trail Restoration - $332,100
Located in Cook County. The monies will pay for the
reconstruction of two miles of severely eroded mountain
biking and equestrian trails and restoration of two acres of
ecologically sensitive ravine areas that have been damaged
by off-trail use.
Harris Horse & Hike Trail - Harris Forest Preserve - $83,250
Located in Kendall County. The monies will pay for
development of 2.5 miles of equestrian/hiking trail,
including two equestrian and five pedestrian bridges across
creeks within the 92-acre Harris Forest Preserve.
